  • Synergy of volunteers of the Kherson Region

    16.03.2023

Grantee: Public organization “Journalists Association "Alternative”

Implementation Project Area: The project will be implemented in the right-bank de-occupied part of the Kherson region, including the city of Kherson.

    Project status: active

    Implementation period: 01.03.2023-31.07.2023

Aim of the Project: To unite the disparate volunteer movements of the Kherson region and, due to this, to make the humanitarian support of the de-occupied right bank of the Kherson region more systematic, taking into account the needs and requests of the local population. To conduct an information campaign - to tell how the de-occupied Kherson Oblast survived the winter and spring of 2023 - in order to increase the amount of humanitarian support from other regions of Ukraine and from abroad.

    Additional Information:

The target audience of the project is residents of the specified region, low-income and large families, families with infants, people with disabilities, pensioners, IDPs. In the regional center, for example, 80,000-100,000 of the 350,000 residents remain today. The population of the villages of the right bank has halved, but it is still about 120,000 people.

We provide people with a basic set of food products - flour, sugar, oil, rice, pasta, various cereals, canned goods, bread. Baby food - milk mixtures, cereals, fruit and vegetable purees. Hygiene products - soap, washing powder, toothpastes and brushes, shampoo, shower gel, bleaches, napkins, toilet paper, feminine hygiene, baby and adult diapers, diapers, etc.

Therefore, during the implementation of the project, it is provided:

They were actively engaged not only in the formation and delivery of food sets. The campaign "Warm blankets" was successfully implemented - more than 2,000 warm blankets and blankets were collected and delivered to the people of Kherson. On an ongoing basis, we collect and deliver to villages and across Kherson hygiene products that come from different parts of Ukraine, Sweden and Germany. As part of the campaign "Let's read in Ukrainian!" received and continue to distribute books in the Ukrainian language and educational and entertaining board games.

The requests of the people of Kherson and representatives of the de-occupied communities also influenced the final goal of the project. Thanks to the implementation of the campaign "Let's read in Ukrainian!" our project also has a cultural component - we cooperate with city and school libraries, deliver children's Ukrainian books to families with many children, families with children, and families raising special children.

We established contact with public organizations and volunteer movements in Spain, Germany, and Sweden. Delivery of aid from these countries to Kherson became possible only after the deoccupation of the regional center.

The daily work of the volunteer team of Kherson journalists is reflected in monthly reports and best of all illustrated in media publications about our activities and daily posts on social networks. During the five months of project implementation (from March 1 to May 15, 2023), 171 posts were made.
