  • Support of the activities of cinematographers of the Creative Association “BABYLON’13” in the light of the events of the russian invasion to Ukraine

    Aim of the Project: creation of a series of five short documentary videos to inform the Ukrainian and foreign community about events related to the fight against the russian aggressor and about the activities of the voluntary movement and the lives of people during the war in Ukraine. 

    Additional Information: from the first days of the large-scale invasion, the Creative Association “BABYLON’13 intensified the battle on the information front. It actively creates videos and social movies, documents about the impact of war crimes and tells stories about volunteers and ordinary people whose lives were forever changed by war. 

    Since the start of the war, over 80 documentaries have been produced and published free of charge. Most videos are subtitled in English to attract and disseminate relevant information to an international audience. Since March on the YouTube channel there has been an increase of views (300%) and active followers (34%), 43% of the YouTube audience are foreigners. Full-length documentaries created on the basis of Babylon’13, also in times of war, continue to represent Ukraine in international festivals, setting precedents for cultural discussion on the topic of russian war crimes, military invasions of our country. 

    “Iron hundred” – the film about the Azov battalion fighters was presented in the “Cannes Docs work in progress” program within the framework of the Cannes Film Festival, “One Day in Ukraine” – the competitive program Sheffield DOC/FEST, “Iron Butterflies” – the program of representation of Ukrainian documentary film in the section work in progress Sheffield DOC/FEST.  

    The advantage of its activities is the experience of both: entire creative team and personal experience of involved filmmakers. The creative teams of Babylon’13 in 8 years have created more than 500 films, talking about the decisive steps of civil society, the formation of Ukrainians of a new civil consciousness, which is based on self-organization, solidarity and defence of human rights.
