The Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER) releases the 4th edition of the External Trade Monitoring report. This publication provides an analysis and overview of Ukraine's external trade performance in September 2024. The report highlights the latest developments in exports and imports, particularly the increase in agricultural exports, the impact of global prices on oilseeds and wheat, and key trends in metallurgy and machinery manufacturing.
In September 2024, Ukraine's exports grew by 20% year-over-year, largely due to higher exports in agriculture, metallurgy, and machinery. Imports increased by 9% year-over-year, primarily driven by higher defense purchases and a greater import volume of energy equipment.
The main obstacles faced by exporters in September included labor shortages (63% of respondents), security threats (56%), and power supply disruptions (49%). These results were based on the IER’s monthly business survey.
Ukraine continues to conduct legislative screening, which is essential for harmonizing national laws with EU standards.
The topic of this issue is permits for international road freight transport. It briefly outlines the specifics of permits for international road freight, including bilateral agreements, transit permits, and the liberalization of freight transport between Ukraine and the EU.
The first three editions of the External Trade Monitoring report were prepared with the support of the American people, provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Competitive Economy Program.
