On November 19, 2010 in Brussels (Belgium), the European Policy Centre in collaboration with the Open Society Foundations and the International Renaissance Foundation organized a roundtable discussion “Is the EU Losing Ukraine or Is It Business as Usual?” as a part of the Eastern Promises project. Veronika Movchan, Academic Director of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting took part in the discussion.
She presented the Civil Society Initiative on Monitoring Implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agenda, and reported the results of the second round of monitoring. It was noticed that the most of completed Association Agenda priorities were in economic policy domain (3 out of 4), and that for the absolute majority of priorities work is still in progress or even has not started yet. In addition, the importance of rule of law, reduced corruption and efficient implementation of laws were emphasized as major preconditions for reform progress in Ukraine.
