  How to get a billion of dollars and lose twelve?

  

  Considering the introduction of an additional import duty (bills №1562 and №1563 of 22 December 2014) in the context of cooperation with the WTO, the IMF and the EU, we have concluded that the measure formally complied with the provisions of the WTO agreements, although there may be no questions about the letter, but "spirit" of WTO rules. Also in Ukraine there may be problems in cooperation with the IMF and the EU.

  Workshop “World Trading System: WTO and EU impact on Ukrainian business” in Ternopil

  On December, 24, 2014 the Workshop “World Trading System: WTO and EU impact on Ukrainian business” was held in Ternopil. Representatives of businesses, business associations, government and education participated in the Workshop carried out by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting in cooperation with the Ternopil Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

  Project “Trade policy and practice in Ukraine”

  

  For about one and a half year we have visited almost all parts of Ukraine. With the support of Government of Sweden, we held seminars "The impact of the WTO and the EU on Ukrainian business". We have informed representatives of business and local government, what an Association Agreement with the EU gave, what were the WTO protection mechanisms for Ukrainian exporters and, later, informed on the the EU autonomous trade preferences for Ukraine.

  Real GDP in the third quarter of 2014 contracted by 5.3% yoy (flash Ukrstat estimate was decline by 5.1% yoy). On the demand side, domestic demand dropped sharply.
