    On December 19, 2013 the Workshop “World Trading System: current activity of the WTO and its impact on business” was held in Vinnytsia. Representatives of businesses, business associations and government participated in the Workshop carried out by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting in cooperation with Vinnytsia Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Workshop took place in the Vinnytsia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Vinnytsia, Soborna str. 68, conference-hall).

    Analysis of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine: a better access to the EU market for light industry manufacturers

    The European clothing and footwear market will become more open for Ukrainian manufacturers if Ukraine signs the Association Agreement (AA) with the EU. The weighted average EU import duty on textiles and clothing will be reduced from 11% to 0% during the first year after a free trade area under the AA will be established.

    Association Agreement with the EU will help increase exports of Ukrainian food to Europe. This will become possible due to cancellation of most import duties on imports to the EU. From the current level of 5.8% customs rate will fall to 0.4% immediately after the Agreement’s the entry into force, and three years later they will equal 0.3%.

    Provided that the entry into force of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU Ukrainian export of agricultural products to the EU would have increased by 20%, while imports to Ukraine would have increased by 7%. Such are the results of the study "The impact of the EU-Ukraine DCFTA on agricultural trade" made by the experts of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER) ​​in the framework of the project " German-Ukrainian Agricultural Policy Dialogue".

    Ukrstat revised upwards real GDP in the third quarter but it still declined by 1.3% yoy (as compared to preliminary estimate at 1.5% yoy). This was a fifth quarter of declining GDP on year-to-year basis. Real private final consumption growth at 6.7% yoy contributed 5 p.p to GDP growth.

    Low profits impede business investing

    For business in Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions, low profit is a major factor that hinders investment in its development. It has been demonstrated by the enterprises survey held by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting within the study ‘Investments as a Path to the Effective Economic Development of the Territories’ in 2013. The aim of this study was to analyze investment climate in Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions and to offer local government the tools and mechanisms to stimulate investment based on the obtained results.
