The international grain markets are dominated by negative trends. This is mainly due to two reasons: firstly, this season the world production of cereals, especially wheat, has exceeded its consumption; secondly, the crisis in the financial markets gives uncertainty to grain traders. Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Ukraine assesses the wheat harvest in 56 million tonnes (previous year: 39.5 million tons), which could make about 27 million tons of exports. Market agents have doubt in the official forecast and suggest that it is overestimated by around 10%. However, exports of grain, namely 22 million tons, could significantly exceed the level of the previous season.
