On January 1, 2005, the Law of Ukraine “On Agricultural Advisory Activities” entered into force, providing for a legal basis for the delivery and financing of agricultural advisory services in Ukraine.
"The indicator for Telecommunications slightly increased from 2.50 to 2.53 due to enhanced competition on the market. However, the growth in indicator was not so significant because of delays in further sector’s reforms. In particular, the regulator of the sector is still unable to monitor the market and interfere in effective manner."
Commercial use of genetic modification is a highly controversial issue all around the world. The hopes are that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) could have a role in ensuring food security. On the other hand, the scientific community is not yet in a position to give a definitive answer as to the dangers of GMOs for human health and the environment. Thus, law and policy makers find themselves in a difficult position of legislating in a very sensitive area, Ukraine being no exception.
Agriculture and food are important sectors in Ukraine with growing opportunities on international commodity markets driven by increasing demand for food, feed and renewable energy. At the same time Ukraine’s dependency of fossil energy leads to the search for new energy supply concepts.
The long lasting drought and very high temperatures this spring created unfavourable conditions for crops in Ukraine, and 2007 grain crop is expected to be lower than last year. The Government of Ukraine (GOU) has already reacted by publishing a resolution No. 794 as of 4th of June "On immediate measures for mitigation of drought effects and forming grain supply for 2007".
Ukraine's positions in the Euro-Asian transport chain can weaken because of slow reforms in its transport sector and insufficient implementation of joint projects on facilitation of goods transit through its territory.
